Core Impact Points
Lucasfilm has shown off the debut trailer for Star Wars: Starfighter at the Disney fan event, D23. The brief first look at the upcoming movie shows Ryan Gosling’s pilot character, now confirmed to be called Kade Auberon, discover a child playing with his decommissioned starfighter inside a garage.
“There's a reason it was decommissioned, Kade says. We then see Kade fly across a number of otherworldly landscapes, and in classic Star Wars fashion, droids shoot at the ship as Kade’s droid helps him escape. On stage at D23, director Shawn Levy handed Gosling a new jacket to wear.”
On the back is the symbol of his character, Kade Auberon, which you can see below. Starfighter is a standalone Star Wars movie that is neither a prequel nor a sequel, director Shawn Levy has insisted. "It’s a new adventure," he said of the post-Rise of Skywalker film at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
"It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet. " As part of that, it will not feature any "legacy characters," so don't expect to see Rey Skywalker pop up. Ryan Gosling stars alongside Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Flynn Gray.
